Vol. 293 No. 9

Written Answers. - Hill Sheep Owners.

84.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will make a statement on a recent letter (details supplied) sent to sheep owners in the hill areas stating that his Department is not now responsible for keeping fences as was the system in the past.

Cavan): The letter supplied by the Deputy was issued to an individual and not, as suggested, to sheep owners in hill areas generally.

My Department's policy in relation to the fencing of State forest lands has not changed. Fences are usually erected and maintained for the protection of young trees for so long as such protection is considered necessary. My Department has no responsibility for fencing in the stock of adjoining landowners.
