Vol. 293 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Factory Acts.

13.

asked the Minister for Labour the proposals he has in mind with a view to updating the safety provisions of the Factory Acts; the progress that has been made; and when legislation to enact the new proposals will be introduced.

(Cavan): I have reviewed the laws related to the safety, health and welfare of workers and am seeking the approval of the Government to introduce a Bill entitled Safety, Health and Welfare of Workers in Industry Bill to update the present legislation, which will take into account the technological and other changes which have taken place since the mid 'fifties. I intend to introduce this legislation at an early date.

Can the Minister give any further details of that date?

(Cavan): I cannot Deputy; I am sorry. I have looked at my brief and I cannot give an exact date. But it would appear from what is contained in my brief that the legislation is at an advanced stage of preparation.
