Vol. 294 No. 6

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Payment.

47.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will give details as to how the figure of £11 weekly was arrived at as a social welfare payment to a person with six children in the Tallaght area of County Dublin (name supplied).

The weekly means of the person concerned, based on an amount attributable to his wife's earnings, were assessed for Unemployment Assistance purposes at £16.90 by a Deciding Officer. He is therefore entitled to payment of Unemployment Assistance at the weekly rate of £12.35 that is the difference between the maximum rate of £29.25 payable in his case, less the weekly rate of means assessed against him. Due, however, to a local office error, which is regretted, he received payment at the weekly rate of £11.90. Arrangements are being made for payment of all arrears due to him in the course of the present week and further payments at the weekly rate of £12.35 will continue as they fall due.

He has appealed against the Deciding Officer's assessment of means and arrangements have been made to have his case submitted to an Appeals Officer for decision.
