Vol. 295 No. 1

Written Answers. - Unemployment Assistance.

61.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why unemployment assistance has not been granted to a person (name supplied) in County Offaly; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Unemployment assistance was not paid to the person concerned on his application of 14th August, 1974, as it was decided by a deciding officer and subsequently confirmed by an appeals officer that his weekly rate of means, as assessed under the Unemployment Assistance Acts, was in excess of the maximum rate of assistance which would be payable to him if he had no means.

Should he now renew his claim, however, he would, because of the increased rates of unemployment assistance at present in force, be entitled to a small weekly payment on the basis of his means as already assessed. Alternatively he could request a reinvestigation of his means if he considers that a change has taken place in his circumstances since the date of the last investigation.
