asked the Minister for Local Government the net estimated current cost to the Exchequer of the abolition of rates on domestic dwellings up to a valuation of £25.

It is not possible to give a specific figure for this. However, the cost of derating all dwellings would be approximately £55 million at 1976 rate levels, and as it appears that the great majority of dwellings have a valuation of £25 or under, the cost of derating these would not be significantly less than the above mentioned sum.
