Written Answers. - Mayo Health Services.

110.

asked the Minister for Health when approval will issue to enable work to commence on a home for the aged of Ballina, County Mayo, of which his Department got details of in July, 1974.

As indicated in my reply to a similar question on 3rd November last, Official Report Volume 293, No. 7, column 973, approval to the provision of the proposed welfare accommodation for the aged at Ballina depends on the availability of capital funds and the priority rating accorded to the project by the health board. It is hoped to discuss these matters with officers of the board with the next few weeks.

111.

asked the Minister for Health when approval will issue and capital be made available for the construction of an acute psychiatric unit at Ballina Hospital, County Mayo, details of which are with his Department since May, 1975.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply of Wednesday, 3rd November, 1976, in this matter, Official Report, Volume 293, No. 7, columns 972 and 973. While the economic situation has changed since then, the other issues mentioned have not.

112.

asked the Minister for Health when sanction will issue and funds be made available for a health centre at Ballina, County Mayo, of which his Department has details since July, 1975.

The proposed health centre at Ballina is one of a member of projects being considered for inclusion in the capital programme for 1977.

The Western Health Board are being consulted about their priorities for inclusion in the 1977 programme and the priority rating given to this project by the board will be an important factor in the final decision.

113.

asked the Minister for Health when approval will issue and funds be made available for the provision of an adult mentally handicapped complex at Swinford, County Mayo.

The proposal of the Western Health Board to provide an adult mental handicap complex at Swinford is under consideration and will shortly be discussed with the board but it is not possible at this stage to state what the decision may be on this project.

114.

andMr. Gallagher asked the Minister for Health when his Department will make funds available for a psychiatric department which is urgently needed at Castlebar Hospital, County Mayo.

There is a new 50-bed psychiatric unit operating in association with Castlebar General Hospital. This unit was opened on 28th July, 1972.
