Vol. 296 No. 6

Written Answers. - ESB Benefits.

65.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the number of households within each of the ESB districts which qualify for benefit under the terms of the Electricity (Supply) (Amendment) Act, 1976.

Cavan): I am informed by the ESB that they are not yet in a position to furnish the definitive total of the number of householders who will qualify for benefit under the Act. The board have explained that a detailed survey has been in progress over the past four months in each of the board's districts. This survey has not yet been fully completed but the board have told me that present indications are that some 1,500 or so householders will qualify for benefit; they are distributed amongst the board's districts roughly as follows:

District

Estimated number of eligible householders

Athlone

41

Cork

103

Dublin City

Nil

Dublin North West

12

Dublin South

49

Dundalk

4

Galway

523

Limerick

142

Portlaoise

13

Sligo

195

Tralee

370

Waterford

36

TOTAL 1,488 Say, 1500

It is possible, the board say, that the final total could be somewhat higher depending on the full results of the survey. All the above and any other householders throughout the country who qualify for benefit will be offered electricity supply on the special subsidised terms provided for under the Act.
