Vol. 296 No. 6

Written Answers. - Irish Steel Holdings.

97.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will make a statement regarding the development plan proposed for Irish Steel Holdings Ltd; if any of the £8.2 million allocated last year was spent; if not why' and when work will commence on the plan.

As I announced earlier today, the Government have approved proposals for the re-equipment and expansion by Irish Steel Holdings of its plant at Haulbowline, County Cork.

Provision was made in the public capital programme for 1976 for £8.23 million for possible expenditure on development plans by Irish Steel Holdings Ltd. which the company were formulating at the time the programme was being prepared. Since the plan had not been approved there was no expenditure on it in 1976. Commencement of work on the plan will depend on the time taken to negotiate and place contracts.
