Vol. 296 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kildare Redundant Workers.

38.

asked the Minister for Labour if he is aware of the number of workers recently made redundant in the area of Kill, Naas, County Kildare; and if he has any immediate plans for providing work for them in that area.

There are 29 persons, 25 male, four female, from the Kill area drawing unemployment benefit or assistance at the Newbridge employment exchange. I understand also that re-equipment grants totalling £500,000 have been approved for firms in the Nass-Kill area which, at full production, will result in the creation of 66 new jobs.

Would the Minister investigate the situation where there is a site in the Kill area formerly a sandpit, which would suit any type of industry particularly industries engaged in the industry in that area which closed down and made men redundant recently?

That is really a matter for the Minister for Industry and Commerce and if he is not already aware of it I will convey to him the information given to me by the Deputy about the vacant site.

Question No. 39 withdrawn.
