andMr. Dowling asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the number of applications at present before the National Prices Commission for price increases; if he will specify the particular item or service and the increase applied for in each case; and the date on which each application was received.

On 8th February, 1977 the number of applications for price increases under examination in my Department or under consideration by the National Prices Commission was 45. Since information in regard to individual applications must be treated as confidential, it is not possible for me to give the further information sought.

The number of price increases recommended by the National Prices Commission and accepted by me in the period from the date of the budget, 26th January, 1977 to 7th February, 1977 was 21. The further information sought by the Deputy is given in the following table:
