Vol. 296 No. 9

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

64.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when children's allowances in respect of the six children of a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath for the months of April, and May, 1976 will be paid.

Payment of the arrears of children's allowances in question has just been made.

65.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when pay-related benefit will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Meath; and the enquiries that have been made to obtain the necessary information from his employer.

The title of the person concerned to pay-related benefit depends on the amount of his earnings in the 1975-76 income tax year. As this information was not available to my Department, he was requested to obtain a certificate of his earnings from his employer for the year in question. On receipt of this information, his claim for pay-related benefit was allowed and arrangements have been made to have payment of all arrears due made to him during the present week. Further payments will continue as they fall due.

66.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when unemployment benefit will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Meath who has been signing since November; and the enquiries that have been made regarding his 1974 insurance card.

The person referred to by the Deputy claimed disability benefit, and not unemployment benefit, in respect of illness from 29th November, 1976 to 1st January, 1977. He was not entitled to benefit as he had no employment contributions paid or credited in the 1975 contribution year which governed the period of his claim. Following investigation cheques were received from his employer on 3rd February, 1977, in payment of the contributions outstanding for 1974 and 1975 and, as a result, he is now qualified for benefit and the amount due is being issued to him.

67.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why unemployment assistance is not being paid to a person (name supplied) in County Offaly who has been claiming since September, 1976 and who is married and has a family of seven.

As was explained in the reply to the Deputy's previous question regarding this case, on 14th December last unemployment assistance is being paid at a reduced rate to the person concerned and he has appealed against the means assessment on which this reduced rate of payment is based. The further inquiries necessary in relation to his means have now been completed and the case has been resubmitted to an appeals officer. As soon as his decision is available, it will be communicated to the applicant without delay.

68.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when a replacement children's allowance book (No. 5/9973) will be issued to a person (name supplied) in County Laois who has drawn no children's allowance since December, 1976.

A replacement children's allowance book covering payment from January, 1977, was issued to the person concerned on 7th February, 1977.
