Vol. 296 No. 10

Written Answers. - School Transport Service.

119.

asked the Minister for Education if he will sanction school transport for eligible pupils in the Greenmount, Wolfstown, Red Bay area of Kildare who travel to Rathmore National School, Naas.

The service in question was withdrawn with effect from the closing of the school for the 1976 summer vacation because the number of eligible children had fallen below the minimum number required to maintain the service. It has been represented to the Department that additional eligible children have become available and the matter is being investigated. I will let the Deputy know the outcome in due course.

120.

asked the Minister for Education if he will extend the Killarney post-primary school bus service from Knockasartnett Cross to Barleymount Cross, Killarney, County Kerry.

No approach has been made to my Department or to CIE about an extension of this service to bring it closer to the homes of pupils in the Barleymount area. I have now arranged to have the matter examined and I will let the Deputy know the outcome in due course.

121.

asked the Minister for Education if he will arrange to have school transport provided for children (name supplied) in County Cork who are over three miles from the nearest primary school.

I understand from CIE that no application has been received for free transport for these children. Application should be made through the board of management of their nearest school and the matter will then be investigated.
