Vol. 296 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Television Copyright.

19.

(Dublin Central) asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he had any communication with the British authorities concerning the matter of copyright in relation to television signals that emanate from that country; and if there is a possibility of increased charges for multi-channel viewers if copyright fees are introduced.

The answer to the first part of the question is no. So far as the second part of the question is concerned any increase in cable companies' costs involves the possibility of increased charges to subscribers but I do not envisage existing subscribers having to pay increased fees because of copyright fees.

(Dublin Central): Could the Minister say if Equity had any communication with his Department?
