Vol. 297 No. 1

Written Answers. - Galway Barracks Married Quarters.

122.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware of the bad conditions prevailing at the married quarters in Dún Uí Mhaoilíosa military barracks, Renmore, Galway; and, if so, the steps he proposes to take to remedy the situation.

The condition of the married quarters at Dún Uí Mhaoilíosa is kept under review in the context of the maintenance programme for married quarters generally. Soldiers have equal claims on local authority houses with other members of the community in the same category. My Department's policy is to supplement the efforts of local authorities where soldiers' housing needs are greatest. The needs of Dún Uí Mhaoilíosa will be fully considered in connection with the Army housing programme generally.
