Vol. 297 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Electricity Supply.

20.

andMr. Keaveney asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he is aware of the chronic low voltage areas on the ESB network in County Donegal; and if he will take action to ensure a proper supply in all areas.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that they are not aware of any widespread low voltage problems in County Donegal. However individual complaints are received from time to time and these are cleared on a systematic basis.

The ESB also say that the temporary reduction in voltage levels during the recent industrial dispute in the board resulted in an increase in the number of complaints received by them.

I had complaints last August and I contacted the ESB because there was a quite severe loss at a factory at Buncrana and, to date, I have got no official reason for the loss in power at that time.

I can only say, in addition to the reply I have given, that in common with most other parts of the country where there is an increase in consumption of electricity, the board's explanation is along the lines that the recurrence of a low voltage may be attributable, broadly speaking, in a particular area to an increase in the use of electrical appliances.
