NOTE 1: The figures are provisional.
NOTE 2: The proceeds of increased tax on cycles and private cars imposed by the Finance Act, 1966, and the Finance (No. 2) Act, 1970; the proceeds of variations in road tax rates imposed by the Finance Act, 1973, and the proceeds of increased tax on private cars imposed by the Finance Act, 1976, are retained by the Exchequer and do not reach the Road Fund. The amounts given in the table are inclusive of Exchequer retentions. In the year 1976 the Exchequer retained £18,872,802. The Road Fund was, however, supplemented by voted money to the extent of £5,356,000 in 1976.
NOTE 3: The amounts given in the table do not include small sums in respect of licence fees in respect of appliances and structures for servicing vehicles which are collected by licensing authorities but are lodged direct to the Central Motor Tax Account for eventual inclusion in Road Fund receipts. The total sum for 1976 was £8,204.
