Vol. 297 No. 4

Written Answers. - County Kildare School.

62.

asked the Minister for Education if a decision has been made regarding the type of post-primary school to be provided in Leixlip, County Kildare; and if he will indicate the likely opening date of this school.

The following are the options in relation to the provision of a post-primary school in Leixlip: (a) a community school with a board of management comprising two elected parents, two representatives of the vocational education committee and two representatives of the religious authorities involved. The board would be responsible directly to the Department and both the religious and the vocational education committee would be expected to make a financial contribution, or (b) a school under the control of the County Kildare Vocational Education Committee with a board of management set up under section 21 of the Vocational Education Act, 1930.

The main considerations which affect a decision are the wishes of the vast majority of the community and the method of financing a school.

No decision has yet been taken on the date from which the post-primary school in Leixlip will be required but this matter is being kept under consideration. A decision in the matter will be taken shortly.
