Vol. 297 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Sligo Estate.

20.

asked the Minister for Agriculture why the Meehan estate, Ardtrasna, Ballinfull, County Sligo is held by the Land Commission for the past 20 years and rented on the 11-month system while local farmers are anxious to have it divided.

The allotment of this estate—possession of which passed to the Land Commission in October, 1968—was held over pending the acquisition of other lands in the area so that a comprehensive scheme of land settlement could be effected. Part of the lands—some 35 acres—were included with six other properties in a composite resale scheme and were allotted in September, 1976. A further composite scheme embracing the balance of this estate—35 acres—and 13 other holdings has now been prepared and it is hoped that the proposals can be finalised so that allotment can take place within the next month or so.
