asked the Minister for the Public Service the total amount included in the current budget for 1977, with comparative figures for 1975 and 1976, in respect of social insurance contributions payable by public authorities.

A total of £16.1 million is included in the current budget for 1977 to cover the cost to the Exchequer of paying social welfare employer's contributions in respect of civil servants, teachers, the Defence Forces, Garda as well as nurses, doctors and other health board employees, that is those groups which comprise the public service pay bill. The comparative figures for 1975 and 1976 are £9.1 million and £13.5 million respectively.
