Vol. 298 No. 4

Written Answers. - Telephone Service.

142.

Mr. Kitt

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when an automatic telephone service or a full night service will be provided for (i) Monivea and (ii) Athenry, County Galway.

Monivea telephone exchange is not included in current automatisation programmes and it is not possible, therefore, to give a reliable estimate of the conversion date at this stage. The introduction of continuous telephone service is not warranted at present.

Based on a recent forecast by the Office of Public Works for erection of the exchange building, conversion of Athenry exchange to automatic working is expected in 1979. There is already a full night service at Athenry.

143.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number and locations of telephone kiosks which are to be erected in County Wicklow during the next 12 months; and the approximate date each will become operational.

It is planned to provide two kiosks—one at Lacken in replacement of the local call office telephone and the second at Killiskey under guarantee by the local authority.

The kiosk at Lacken will be brought into service within about two months of site problems being resolved. These have been the subject of correspondence with the local authority. A draft agreement covering the terms that would apply to a guaranteed kiosk at Killiskey and particulars of a proposed site were sent recently to the county council. The kiosk will be brought into service within about two months of acceptance of these by the council.

144.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the present position in relation to the provision of telephones for applicants in Bellevue Park, Greystones, County Wicklow.

It is expected that service will be provided within the next two months or so for the applicants who applied in 1974 and about the end of this year for the remainder.
