asked the Minister for Social Welfare the total number of persons insured in all categories under the Social Welfare Acts in March, 1977.

The total number of persons insured in all categories under the Social Welfare Acts on 31st March, 1976, the latest date for which figures are available, is as follows:

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of beneficiaries of contributory old age pensions on 31st March, 1977, in each of the following categories: pensioners, adult dependants, prescribed female relatives and child dependants.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of beneficiaries of retirement pensions on 31st March, 1977, in each of the following categories: pensioners, adult dependants, child dependants and prescribed relatives.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, it is proposed to take Questions Nos. 42 and 43 together.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the total number of children in respect of whom children's allowances were paid on 31st March, 1977.

There were 1,174,370 children in respect of whom children's allowances were in payment at 31st March, 1977.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of pensioners in receipt of non-contributory old age and blind person's pensions on 31st March, 1977.

The number of pensioners in receipt of old age and blind persons' (non-contributory) pensions on 31st March, 1977, was 128,895.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of beneficiaries of single woman's allowance on 31st March, 1977.

There were 3,462 persons in receipt of single woman's allowance on 31st March, 1977.

50.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when a decision will be reached on the application for unemployment benefit by a person (name supplied) in County Kildare.

A claim for unemployment benefit made by the person concerned on 1st February, 1977, was disallowed by a deciding officer on the ground that she did not satisfy the statutory condition which requires a claimant to be available for employment. She has appealed against this decision and arrangements are being made for an appeal hearing as soon as possible at which it will be open to her to attend and give evidence on her own behalf. She will be notified of the place, time and date of the hearing in due course.

51.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when further payments of occupational injury benefit will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Meath who applied four weeks ago and has received only one small payment.

All payments of injury benefit due to the person referred to by the Deputy were issued to him, at the address quoted on his claim form, on 21st April, 1977.
