Vol. 299 No. 9

Written Answers. - Drug Offences.

59.

asked the Minister for Justice the number of cases brought before the courts for each of the past seven years for each of the following offences: (a) possession of cannabis; (b) smoking cannabis; (c) selling cannabis; (d) cultivation of cannabis; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Statistics relating to drugs offences are not available in the precise form sought by the Deputy. The annual Crime Report of the Commissioner of the Garda Síochána for the years 1970 to 1975, copies of which are available in the Oireachtas Library, include a break-down of the various types of drugs in respect of which charges were brought during those years. It is hoped that the corresponding figures for the year 1976 will be published in the near future.
