asked the Minister for Education the number of prosecutions in the past ten years for contravention of section 23 of the National Monuments Act, 1930 in respect of the reporting of the finding of archaeological objects.

I am not aware of any prosecution in the past ten years for an offence in contravention of section 23 of the National Monuments Act, 1930, in respect of the reporting of the finding of archaeological objects.

316.

asked the Minister for Education if he is satisfied that, in respect of all licensed or unlicensed excavations carried out in the past ten years, the terms of section 23 of the National Monuments Act, 1930 have been complied with in regard to reporting within 14 days the finding of archaeological objects; and if he will indicate the means now available to him for the enforcement of this section.

I have no evidence that the provisions of Section 23 of the National Monuments Act, 1930, have been complied with in all such cases. I have no statutory function in relation to the enforcement of this section.
