Vol. 300 No. 5

Written Answers. - Youth Employment Grant Scheme.

313.

asked the Minister for Education in relation to the temporary grant scheme for youth employment the bodies which have received grants or have been refused grants; the nature, duration and employment content, male and female, of the work in each case grant-aided; the reason for the refusal where a grant was refused; and if it is his intention to renew this scheme either later this year or next year.

The particulars requested by the Deputy as far as they are available in relation to the projects approved under the scheme are set out in the table hereunder. In regard to the number of young people employed under the scheme, I am not in a position to give a breakdown of this figure under male and female.

Some applications for grants were refused on the grounds that the conditions of the scheme were not fulfilled. Those applications were from the following bodies:—Gaelic Athletic Association, Irish Handball Council, Association for Adventure Sports, Macra na Feirme, Muintír na Tíre, Ogra Corcaí, Federation of Scouts, Catholic Youth Council, National Federation of Youth Clubs, Irish Union of School Students, the National Rehabilitation Board.

No decision has been reached on the question of renewing this scheme.
