Written Answers. - National Committee on Pilot Schemes To Combat Poverty.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the grade, purpose and remuneration of each permanent post of employment with the National Committee to Combat Poverty.

There are no permanent posts of employment with the National Committee on Pilot Schemes to Combat Poverty. However, two members of the staff hold permanent appointments in the civil service and are temporarily seconded to the committee from the Department of Social Welfare. All other staff employed by the committee are engaged on the basis of short-term contracts, the maximum duration of which is five years.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if the National Committee to Combat Poverty has given grants-in-aid to any other bodies; if so, the bodies, the amount, the purpose and restrictions upon the use of the grants; and if future grants to those bodies are envisaged.

Details of the grants made by the National Committee on Pilot Schemes to Combat Poverty to other organisations are given in the following table:

A grant of a further £3,000 is envisaged.

Ballyfermot Community Association.

Employment of Welfare Rights Worker and Community Worker.

The question of further grants is under consideration.

North Leitrim Development Federation.

Employment of Community Worker and Researcher.

The Question of further grants is under consideration.

Little Sisters of the Assumption Galway.

Purchase of equipment for training project for itinerant teenage girls.

No further grants are envisaged at this stage.

Free Legal Aid Centres (F.L.A.C.).

Employment of a Community Law Officer.

No further grants are envisaged.

North Centre City Community Action Project (Dublin).

Holiday project for children in a deprived area.

Discussions are in progress with a view to a grantaided Community Action Project.

In each case the use of the grant is restricted to the purpose for which it was provided.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of temporary employees who have been or are employed by the National Committee to Combat Poverty; and the purpose of each temporary position.

The National Committee on Pilot Schemes to Combat Poverty are authorised to employ a temporary staff of 42. The actual number employed at present is 41, the post of director being vacant. Nine temporary staff are employed in head office in general administrative work and in servicing the field projects. These are: One Senior Research Officer; one Information Co-ordinator; two Administrative Assistants; three Full-time Secretaries; one Receptionist/Telephonist; one cleaner.

Twelve temporary staff are employed on the Community Action Research Project. These are: One Project Manager; three Project Leaders; three Research Officers; four Project Workers; one Part-time Secretary.

Thirteen temporary staff are employed on the Welfare Rights Project. These are: One Project Manager; three Project Leaders; four Research Officers; three Project Workers; two Part-time Secretaries.

Five temporary staff are employed on the Social Services Council Project. These are: Two Research Officers; three Project Workers.

Two temporary staff are employed on the Supplementary Welfare Allowances Project. These are: Two Research Officers.
