Vol. 300 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Incorporated Law Society.

22.

asked the Minister for Justice when the Incorporated Law Society were set up; and if he is satisfied that the public interest is being served by their composition and their powers.

The Incorporated Law Society of Ireland were incorporated by Royal Charter in 1852. As regards the composition of the society, any solicitor who is on the roll is eligible to become a member. As regards the society's powers, the position is that the main powers are those conferred on them by the Solicitors Act, 1954, as amended by the Solicitors (Amendment) Act, 1960. No representations have been made to me either in regard to the composition or the powers of the society.
