Vol. 301 No. 2

Written Answers. - Army Personnel Dissatisfaction.

420.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware that there is some dissatisfaction amongst the personnel in Sarsfield Barracks, Limerick because they are required to do extra duties in Portlaoise while troops from Dublin do not appear to do duty there.

Military personnel for security duties at Portlaoise Prison are provided at present by the Curragh Command supplemented by troops drawn on rotation from various units of the Southern Command. Such personnel are paid an extra allowance amounting to £10.50p per week when on this duty. I am not aware of dissatisfaction in this regard among personnel of Sarsfield Barracks, Limerick. Troops in Dublin are fully committed to military duties in the Eastern Command area.
