Vol. 301 No. 4

Written Answers. - Car Parts Excise Duty.

193.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is contemplating the removal of the excise duty of 37½ per cent on motor car spare parts in the new year in response to pressure from the EEC or other sources; and, if so, if he will refund the duty on stock held by motor traders at the time of such removal which, it is estimated will amount to millions of pounds.

Arising from our obligations under EEC law, the re-structuring of the excise duties on motor vehicles and parts is at present under examination and an announcement in this regard will be made shortly.
