Vol. 301 No. 4

Written Answers. - Grain Smuggling.

482.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware of grain smuggling from Northern Ireland; if so, the tonnage involved; and the action he proposes to take to ensure the future of barley growing in this country.

I am aware of reports of grain smuggling from Northern Ireland. As might be expected in the case of illegal imports it is not possible to indicate what quantities are involved. There is, however, no evidence to suggest that they are at such a level as would interfere with the future of barley growing here.
