Vol. 301 No. 8

Written Answers. - Telephone Service.

250.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of old age pensioners living alone who have applied for telephone service; and if he intends to accord a priority rating to these applications.

About 600 applications for telephones have been received under the telephone subsidy scheme for old age pensioners living alone announced recently by the Minister for Social Welfare. A measure of priority will be afforded where practicable to applicants who qualify under the scheme.

253.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will arrange for the provision of telephone kiosks at Islandeady, Keelogues and Park, Castlebar, County Mayo.

It is planned to provide a kiosk at Park in replacement of the call office telephone in the post office. The kiosk will be erected as soon as possible after a suitable site has been selected and the necessary consents obtained.

The use made of the call office telephone in Islandeady post office is not sufficient to warrant provision of a kiosk there.

Kiosks are not provided in places such as Keelogues where there is no post office.
