Vol. 302 No. 2

Written Answers. - Primary Schools Usage.

415.

asked the Minister for Education if boards of management of primary schools who exercise control of the use of the school premises outside school hours may charge the users an appropriate fee to cover a relevant proportion of lighting, heating and insurance; and if all such moneys received should be lodged in the school bank account.

As legal owners of the school premises, it would be open to the trustees of a vested national school to charge a fee for the use of school premises outside school hours to cover the additional heating, lighting and insurance costs. Any moneys thus received should be transmitted by the trustees to the board of management for lodgment to the school account.

416.

asked the Minister for Education in relation to the use of non-vested primary schools outside school hours, if control of such use is exercised by the board of management; and the circumstances in which such control may be exercised only by the patron.

In accordance with the rules for national schools, no control is exercised by the Minister over the use of non-vested schools outside school hours, the control over such use being a matter for the board of management or the patron. The Minister would have no function in relation to the circumstances in which the patron only might exercise such control.
