Vol. 302 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Health Education Bureau.

17.

asked the Minister for Health the amount allocated to the Health Education Bureau in the last year; the amount this represents as a percentage of total health expenditure for that year; and whether he is satisfied that this allocation is sufficient to meet the needs of this body.

The amount allocated to the Health Education Bureau last year was £300,000, which represented 0.1 per cent of total non-capital health expenditure in that year. The amount allocated enabled the bureau to extend their activities but the bar on recruitment to the public service which operated throughout 1976 constituted a constraint on the bureau's general effectiveness.

Is it the Minister's intention to seek considerably increased funds for this?

Close on £1 million?

The answer is in the affirmative. Of course you do not always get what you seek in this business.

With the Minister's persuasive powers, I think he will be successful.
