Vol. 302 No. 2

Written Answers. - Arterial Drainage.

328.

asked the Minister for Finance in relation to the arterial drainage scheme of the Fane, Blackwater and Erne Rivers in Counties Monaghan and Cavan (i) when the survey commenced; (ii) when the survey was completed; (iii) the acreage affected in the catchment area of the three rivers; and (iv) the stage planning has reached in respect of the three rivers.

Neither the Fane not the Blackwater, Monaghan, has been reached in the drainage programme.

It is estimated that approximately 2,000 acres in the Blackwater catchment would stand to benefit by a scheme under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945. No reliable information is available for the Fane.

In 1958 a survey of that portion of the Erne catchment situated entirely within the State was commenced and was completed in 1961. From the ensuing report it was indicated that a scheme under the Act would benefit some 25,000 acres of land. The preparation of a scheme is in hands but further design works and so on are required.

Question No. 329 postponed.
