asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when the telephone exchange under construction in Kilkenny will be commissioned; and the progress that has been made to provide a temporary exchange for Kilkenny.

It is hoped to complete the installation of the new exchange equipment in the building now under construction at Kilkenny and bring it into service about mid-1980.

A temporary mobile exchange has been ordered for Kilkenny and is expected to be in service next September.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs how many applicants are on the waiting list for telephones in Kilkenny city and county; the date of application of the person who is longest on the waiting list; the number of telephones installed in Kilkenny city since January, 1977; and the number of telephones installed in Kilkenny county since January, 1977.

There are 320 waiting applicants for service in Kilkenny exchange area and 580 for service at other exchanges in Kilkenny county.

The longest outstanding application on the waiting list is dated March, 1973.

Ninety-six telephones were installed in Kilkenny exchange area and 182 at other exchanges in the county in the period from January to the end of September, 1977.
