Vol. 302 No. 4

Written Answers. - Meath Telephone Facilities.

276.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will speed up the provision of automatic telephone service at Longwood and Hill of Down telephone exchanges, County Meath, and in the meantime provide extended night service facilities.

The answer to the first part of the question is yes. Conversion to automatic working of both exchanges will for technical reasons be dependent on the prior installation of a group switching exchange at Enfield and it is unlikely that conversion will be practicable before the latter half of 1980. Every effort will however be made to improve on this estimate.

It is hoped within the next six months to provide additional circuits which will enable extended night service facilities to be given at the exchanges.
