asked the Minister for Social Welfare the maximum amount paid by his Department for (a) an extraction, (b) filling and (c) scalings carried out on insured persons.

The maximum amount paid under the Department's Dental Benefit Scheme for an extraction with a local anaesthetic is £2.45 and for an extraction with a general anaesthetic £5.55. Where a specialist anaesthetist is engaged a further fee not exceeding £7.80 is paid.

The maximum fee payable for a filling is £5.45. The fee paid for scaling is £2.20.
