A proportion of the site which has been designated for the national sports centre has been acquired and the Custom House Dock Development Authority which is acting as agent of my Department for the development is actively engaged in acquiring the remainder.
The first major task in a project of this size and complexity is the finalisation of the development brief document which is in course of preparation for submission to Government.
Subject to Government approval, consortia will be invited to respond to the brief with outline design and development proposals, following which one outline design will be selected for detailed development.
The intention is that construction work will commence in the early part of 1990.
