Vol. 304 No. 6

Written Answers. - Free Travel.

480.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he is aware that there is considerable confusion among those entitled to free travel regarding the type of travel pass which they are obliged to possess in order to avail of the scheme operated by his Department; and the steps he has taken or proposes to take in order to clarify the position for these people.

I am not aware that there is confusion among those entitled to free travel regarding the type of free travel pass which they are obliged to possess. Photo passes are required only in Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway and Waterford and are made readily available at the offices of CIE in those cities. Beneficiaries who live elsewhere use free travel passes which do not have photos attached. With regard to the clarification of the position for free travel users, there is information on the non-photo pass concerning the procedure necessary if exchange to a photo pass is required and each recipient of a photo pass is furnished by CIE with an information leaflet on the scheme.
