Vol. 304 No. 6

Written Answers. - Offaly Unemployment Benefit Application.

479.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why unemployment benefit has not been paid to a person (name supplied) in County Offaly.

A claim for unemployment benefit made by the person concerned on 30 September 1977 was disallowed by a deciding officer on the ground that she did not satisfy the statutory condition which requires a claimant to be available for employment. She appealed against this decision but her appeal was disallowed by an appeals officer following an oral hearing of her case at which she attended and gave evidence on her own behalf. New facts which would warrant a reconsideration of the claimant's case subsequent to the date of her appeal hearing have been received. Due however to difficulties in communicating with the local office handling her case, it has not been possible in the time available to ascertain the present position in her case. As soon as this information is ascertained I will write to the Deputy.
