asked the Minister for Justice (a) the number of high court plenary summonses issued in each of the years from 1972 to 1977, inclusive, wherein damages were claimed for negligence, and (b) the number of such plenary summonses for negligence that eventually came to trial before a judge and jury.

The information sought by the Deputy is not available from existing court statistics and could only be complied by the expenditure of a disproportionate amount of staff time.

The total numbers of High Court plenary summonses issued during the legal years 1972-73 to 1976-77 were as follows:—
