Vol. 305 No. 10

Written Answers. - Irish Medical Schools.

295.

asked the Minister for Education if he has received any representation from the Minister for Health about the number of doctors graduating from Irish medical schools, along the lines indicated by the Minister for Health in his answer to question No. 32 of 6 April 1978; and the action he proposes to take to tackle the problem as outlined both by the Minister for Health and by the second report of the Council for Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education.

I have received such representations from the Minister for Health. The Higher Education Authority have initiated discussions with the universities and the Royal College of Surgeons concerning the number of students who should be admitted to Irish medical schools in future. I am informed that these discussions are being pursued urgently and I await the authority's advice in the matter.
