asked the Minister for Education if boards of management in primary schools are entitled to insist, as a condition of employment of a teacher, that such a teacher should teach religion in the school.
Written Answers. - Teacher Conditions of Employment.
294.
The memorandum of agreement between the board of management of a national school and a teacher on the staff of the school provides that the duties of the teacher shall be such as are in accordance with the rules for national schools. Rules 68 and 69 deal with religious instruction as part of the school curriculum. It is proper for boards of management to ensure that the terms of the memorandum of agreement and the rules for national schools are complied with.
