Vol. 306 No. 1

Written Answers. - Meath Post-Primary Education.

290.

asked the Minister for Education if he has conveyed to the relevant authorities his decision in regard to the agreed proposal amongst local interests in relation to the development of post-primary education in Kells, County Meath; if so, if he intends to sanction the provision of new buildings; the likely date of commencement of such buildings; and if finance will be allocated for them in the 1978 capital programme.

My Department have had discussions with the appropriate educational authorities on a proposal to provide a new community school for all the boys of the area, and to provide places for all the girls at the local Mercy Convent school.

The implementation of the proposal calls for

(1) agreement on the payment of a local contribution

(2) agreement on a deed of trust, and

(3) provision of an extension to the Mercy Convent school.

The relevant religious authority and the VEC have been invited to the Department to discuss the issues involved.

It would not be appropriate for me to say more in relation to the matter at this stage.
