Vol. 306 No. 4

Written Answers. - Postal Deliveries.

213.

andMr. O'Donnell asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the latest permitted hour for regular daily delivery of mail to rural households; if his Department has a regulation in the matter; if it keeps records in relation to each post office; and if he considers 4.30 p.m. unacceptably late.

The finishing times on delivery routes, which are recorded, vary according to the arrival time of mail, its volume and the length of the delivery routes. Most routes are scheduled to finish delivery earlier than 4.30 p.m. in rural areas, but because disproportionate expense would otherwise be involved a small number finish half an hour or so later.

If the Deputies have any particular deliveries in mind, I will be glad to examine them on receipt of details.
