Vol. 306 No. 4

Written Answers. - Irish Hospitals Sweepstakes.

219.

asked the Minister for Justice the number of applications for permission to run sweepstakes that have been granted to the Irish Hospital Sweepstakes by the Government since they assumed office; and if the Government propose to disallow any such applications in future.

The Public Hospitals Acts, 1933 to 1976, provide that a sweepstake committee appointed by hospitals may submit to the Minister for Justice schemes for sweepstakes in aid of the Hospitals Trust Fund. Since taking office I have approved schemes for the holding of three such sweepstakes.

Each application is dealt with as it is submitted and I could not say what decision might be taken in regard to any future application.
