Vol. 306 No. 4

Written Answers. - Meath Post-Primary Education.

226.

asked the Minister for Education the dates and venues of his Department's discussions with each of the appropriate educational authorities in relation to the agreed proposal for post-primary education in Kells, County Meath; the date his Department received the original proposal; the date he invited the authorities to further talks; if a date has yet been set for these talks; and if his Department have made, or will make, any specific proposals at these talks, in relation to a local contribution to the cost of the new school building involved.

Consideration has been given to this matter during the period since the proposal in relation to it was received at the end of March 1977.

It would not be in accordance with normal practice to give detailed information of exploratory discussions in relation to matters which are regarded as being of a confidential nature or of the dates or venues of such discussions.

I may state, however, that the school authorities have been invited to attend meetings in the Department for further discussions of the issues involved, including the matter of the amount of the local contribution towards the cost of new school premises.

It is not open to me, at this stage, to say more in this connection than that a local contribution is required in the case of all community schools.
