Vol. 306 No. 7

Written Answers. - Kildare-Offaly Postal Service.

65.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that there have been no postal deliveries in parts of the Rathangan area, County Kildare, and in Bracknagh, County Offaly; if he will ensure that this will not happen again, and if he will provide the necessary staff.

I assume the Deputy is referring to the unfortunate failure of postal deliveries in the areas mentioned which occurred on 1 May because of the sick absence of the regular postmen and the fact that neither of the usual substitutes was available at short notice. The substitution arrangements have invariably been adequate to meet unexpected absences in the past, but in view of the unusual failure on this occasion special arrangements have been made to ensure against a repetition.
