asked the Taoiseach the procedures that will be adopted in taking the next Census of Population; if he will confirm that postmen will continue to be employed in that work; and, if not, who will be involved.

Unlike the procedures adopted in previous censuses, when the enumerations were carried out in the Dublin area by postal officials and in the rest of the country by the Garda, assisted where necessary by civilian enumerators, the 1979 census enumeration will be carried out by a field force which will be directly controlled and recruited by open competition by the Central Statistics Office.
