Vol. 306 No. 7

Written Answers. - County Cork Pensions.

115.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why a person (details supplied) in County Cork, has not been paid his old age pension for which he applied in August 1977; and when he may expect to receive it.

A non-contributory old age pension at the maximum rate has been awarded to the person concerned by the decision of an appeals officer with effect from 7 October 1977, the date on which the claimant reached pensionable age. The pension order book and arrears of pension were issued on 12 May 1978.

116.

asked the Minister for social Welfare why a contributory pension payable to a person (details supplied) in County Cork was reduced rather than increased in April 1978; and when he may expect to have the full amount of his entitlement restored.

The pension of the person concerned was one in which a supplement being paid under EEC regulations has been found not to be payable. In addition, due to an oversight, he had been paid at a higher rate than that to which he was entitled between November 1977 and April 1978. The necessary adjustments in payments were made in conjunction with the general increases in rates from April 1978, as a result of the budget, and he is now receiving the full amount to which he is entitled. While this is less than the amount which he had been receiving from November 1977 to April 1978, it in fact represents a slight increase in the amount to which he had actually been entitled in that period.

117.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will arrange to have a non-contributory old age pension book returned to a person (details supplied) in County Cork, who has had no income for four weeks.

The pension order book with which the Deputy is concerned is the one commencing on 7 April 1978 which the Rathluirc post office have now confirmed had not been received there. A replacement book was issued direct to the pensioner on 11 May 1978.

The pension order book to which the Deputy refers is the one effective from 7 April 1978 which was issued to the post office of payment before that date. Following a complaint from the person concerned that this pension book had not been received, a replacement book was sent direct to him on 5 May 1978.
