Vol. 306 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sheep Losses.

24.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will have a survey carried out to ascertain the extent of losses sustained by sheep farmers in South Tipperary, arising from the recent heavy snow and inclement weather; whether there is any scheme in existence under which such farmers can be compensated; and, if not, if he will introduce such a scheme, seeking EEC aid if necessary.

My Department operate no scheme to provide compensation for losses of livestock arising from weather conditions.

The information available to the Department is that sheep losses due to snowfalls in the South Tipperary area were not significant and would not, therefore, warrant any special measures on the lines suggested by the Deputy.
